Tehran is willing to restart nuclear discussions with the United States on condition that it is treated with "respect" and "honor", Tehran's foreign minister has declared.

Abbas Araghchi stated exclusively dialogue produced results, and revealed new appeals had originated from go-betweens to resume discussions with the US government. He claimed Iran did not have unreported enrichment locations, and Iran was not yet able to authorize the global atomic watchdog to visit struck enrichment centers for protective measures.

Walking a Difficult Route

Araghchi is treading a complex course since Iran does not want appear to be proceeding from a situation of disadvantage, and he emphatically stated that Iran had emerged more powerful militarily and mentally from the joint assault on its enrichment centers in June.

He was speaking at a defense forum in Tehran where he reiterated that Iran had "an inalienable right to enrich uranium within its borders that it will perpetually retain" – the primary cause of the stalemate in the prior discussions.

Prior Talks Abruptly Ended

The previous five rounds of talks between the United States and Iran were ended suddenly and bitter end on 12 June when Israel, with American backing, attacked Tehran's atomic facilities in a two-week conflict that concluded with Donald Trump claiming the locations had been obliterated. Subsequently, European countries exercised their right to restore global restrictions, but Iran insists they have not had a significant effect.

Ideal Resolution Proposed

Iran's diplomats said they felt they had achieved a "perfect agreement" to the uranium processing matter in previous talks, when it was decided an local partnership with Washington's engagement could refine atomic fuel. Both sides would have been able to declare success since domestic enrichment would have persisted and the US could be assured that Iran's atomic project was entirely non-military.

It had not been decided in the talks that Washington's technical specialists could work within Iranian territory, but that was a natural consequence of the consortium proposal. In his remarks to the forum, intended to portray the US as a hegemonic power that exploits the notion of global regulations, Araghchi said the fortnight-long engagement revealed the clash could not be settled by military means. He stated the assaults began with a US demand for an unconditional Iranian surrender and concluded with an unconditional call for a halt to hostilities.

Iran is convinced the opening assaults from Tel Aviv were executed with complete American awareness and collaboration, making confidence difficult to restore.

The foreign minister said: "Tehran was not the one that had abandoned diplomacy; it was America and the western countries that had consistently attempted to dictate their demands during the discussions. Diplomacy can still be active and stays the final solution to resolve disagreements, but its standards, rules and tenets must be followed."
